The overall objective of the network is to develop a series of new and integrated models to simulate and optimize the forest-wood value chain. More specifically, three integrated model pools will be developed
-
Process-based stand/tree/crown growth model
-
3-D stem quality (stem geometry/wood characteristics models
-
Primary and value-added product recovery models
The integration of these models will lead to the development of integrated, value-based decision-support systems to optimize wood manufacturing processes and harvesting schedules/decisions. Also, the integrated models will serve as valuable tools for silvicultural planning aimed at enhancing forest value.
